Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at jessica@iveygardenofwellness.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Q: What should I do to prepare for my appointment?
A: Eat a light meal 1–2 hours before your session, stay hydrated, and wear loose, comfortable clothing. If possible, complete any new-patient forms ahead of time. Bring a list of medications, supplements, and any questions about your health history or goals

Q: What happens on my first session?
A: Your first visit includes a thorough intake to discuss your health history, lifestyle, and treatment goals. We then design a personalized treatment plan, which may include acupuncture, cupping, or moxibustion.  After discussing your health history, you will also receive your first treatment.  First sessions typically last about 2 hours; follow-up sessions are usually around 1 hour.

Q: Will acupuncture hurt?
A: Most people feel only a gentle pinch or no sensation at all. Some may notice warmth, tingling, or subtle shifts in energy. Sessions are paced to your comfort, and I always check in during treatment.

Q: Is acupuncture safe?
A: Yes. I use only single-use, sterile needles, and follow clean-needle techniques in a hygienic, regulated environment. Trauma-informed, consent-based care ensures you remain comfortable and in control throughout the session.  I encourage people to ask questions during the treatment.

Q: What is Five-Element Acupuncture?
A: Five-Element Acupuncture focuses on the root causes of imbalance rather than just symptoms. It examines how the five elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—manifest in your body, emotions, and energy, and creates treatments to restore harmony on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. This allows for deeply personalized care.

Q: Will I be alone during treatment?
A: No — I stay with you for the entire treatment, unless you are undressing for access to specific points. This allows me to monitor your comfort, adjust needles as needed, and provide trauma-informed support. Unlike some clinics where you may be left alone while needles are in, I remain present to ensure your safety, comfort, and confidence throughout the session.

Q: What other therapies do you offer?
A: In addition to traditional needling, I may integrate:

  • Fire Cupping to release tension and improve circulation

  • Moxibustion to warm and invigorate energy pathways

  • Herbal medicine to support digestion, immunity, or overall wellness

  • Cosmetic facial acupuncture for natural skin revitalization

All modalities are optional and discussed as part of your personalized treatment plan

Q: How often should I come? How many sessions will I need?
A: Frequency depends on your individual needs. Acute conditions may benefit from weekly or bi-weekly sessions, tapering as symptoms improve. Chronic or deeper-rooted issues may require a longer course. Some clients come weekly, monthly, or seasonally for maintenance and energetic alignment. Each plan is tailored to your goals.

Q: What can acupuncture help with — and what can’t it promise?
A: Acupuncture can support:

  • Pain relief, improved mobility, and chronic condition management

  • Stress reduction, emotional regulation, and nervous system balance

  • Hormonal support, fertility, and digestive health

  • Mind-body connection, inner-alchemy alignment, and wellness maintenance

It is a supportive therapy and works best in combination with lifestyle care or other medical treatment when needed. Acupuncture is not a guaranteed “cure-all,” and multiple sessions are often required for long-term results

Q: How does community acupuncture work?
A: Community sessions are group-style, often using ear and hand points for gentle, accessible treatment. Needles remain in place for 30–40 minutes while you rest quietly. Community acupuncture operates on a trust-based sliding scale, making care accessible to everyone.  Please do not bring children under the age of 15 to community sessions.

Q: Do you accept insurance? What payment methods are accepted?
A: I am not contracted with insurance plans. Payment can be made online at booking or via cash, check, Venmo @iveygardenofwellness, Cash App $iveygardenofwellness, or PayPal. Sliding-scale options are available for community sessions. I also accept online payment during scheduling.

Q: What should I look for in an acupuncturist?
A: Choose a licensed practitioner with accredited training, clean-needle certification, and experience in trauma-informed care. I am a Licensed Acupuncturist with advanced training in Five-Element Acupuncture, Cosmetic Facial Rejuvenation, Acupuncture Injection Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, and Herbal Medicine.

Q: Is acupuncture safe for children, pregnant clients, or those on medications?
A: Acupuncture is generally safe for many populations. Specific approaches are tailored for each individual, and I always review your health history to ensure safe, effective care. Please discuss any concerns before scheduling.

Q: What should I do after treatment?
A: Drink plenty of water, rest if needed, and avoid strenuous activity immediately after your session. Gentle movement, mindful breathing, and self-care practices can help integrate the treatment effects.

Q: Do you have a referral program?
A: Yes! I truly appreciate when clients refer friends, family, or colleagues. As a thank-you, each time someone you refer books their first session, you’ll receive a credit toward your next treatment. There’s no limit — the more you share the care, the more you can benefit. This is my way of expressing gratitude for helping grow our healing community.

Amounts

$5 per person in Community Clinic

$10 per person in Private Clinic

Q: Are community acupuncture sessions available?
A: Yes! Community sessions are group-style and designed to make acupuncture more accessible. They often focus on auricular (ear) or easily accessible points on hands and feet. Sessions typically last 30–40 minutes, during which you can rest quietly while receiving care.

Q: Do you offer a sliding-scale fee?
A: Absolutely. Our community clinic operates on a trust-based sliding scale, so clients can pay what they are able. This ensures that acupuncture and holistic care are accessible to everyone, regardless of financial situation.  I also offer one free session per month for those who might not be able to afford the sliding-scale.  For upcoming free dates, click here

Q: Can I switch between private and community sessions?
A: Yes! Many clients enjoy private sessions for personalized care and community sessions for maintenance, energetic support, or when scheduling convenience is needed. We work together to find the right balance for your healing journey
